Yesterday marked a remarkable milestone in employee support as the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) engaged TARA Advocates as consultants to deliver an impactful, multifaceted transition program for staff navigating career changes. This program underscored AKF’s commitment to uplifting its people and ensuring they’re equipped not only for today’s opportunities but for those that lie ahead.
The sessions were facilitated by TARA Advocates and its collaborative consortium partners: Master Coach Joan Mugenzi, MCC from Imagine Me Africa, an esteemed transformational and transition coach; Executive Leadership Coach Patrick Ngolobe , a powerhouse in HR and leadership; John Ntende , also known as The Money Engineer, CEO of Litera8 and a financial literacy expert; and TARA Advocates’ own partners, Allen Kagoya and myself.
The training began with Joan Mugenzi, who encouraged aligning careers with personal purpose and strengths, offering participants invaluable insights on making their skills assets. Patrick Ngolobe then guided the team on positioning themselves effectively in the job market, drawing from his roles in organisations like URA, MTN, Uganda Breweries, and Umeme to highlight the importance of excellence and resilience. Patrick’s session inspired staff to see the project’s conclusion as a springboard for new opportunities.
Financial literacy coaching followed, led by John Ntende, who engaged the team in exercises to evaluate financial fitness, offering strategies for transitioning from scarcity/ debt to financial independence/abundance. The session’s highlight was a market trading game that provided hands-on experience with financial principles.
TARA Advocates concluded the day with a comprehensive legal empowerment session covering employee rights, estate planning, and formalising business associations. These insights were designed to provide AKF staff with the legal literacy necessary to navigate their transitions confidently and pursue future endeavours.
This journey of learning and empowerment wouldn’t have been possible without AKF’s thoughtful leadership, which has shown an unwavering commitment to employee welfare. By fostering a space for career, financial, and legal exploration, AKF demonstrates a rare dedication to the holistic well-being of its team. Special thanks to the Aga Khan Foundation for choosing TARA Advocates and our consortium partners to deliver this meaningful program.
It was a day filled with insights, inspiration, and the forging of new paths—proving that while transitions may be challenging, they are also full of promise.
